The Voice, The Pen, The Sword – An America 250 Musical Event
Two hundred and fifty years ago, an idea was born. An idea spoken with courage…written with conviction…and defended with sacrifice. Now—that story comes to life on stage, right here in theTri-Cities region. This year, LampLight Theatre in Downtown Kingsport, Tennessee, and Natural Tunnel State Park in Duffield, Virginia, proudly present a spectacular original musical created especially for America’s 250th Birthday. “The Voice, The Pen, The Sword” is a full-length, original patriotic musical—bold, modern, and unforgettable. This powerful production tells the story of America’s founding through three legendary figures:
- Patrick Henry–The Voice. The fiery orator whose words awakened a people.
- Thomas Jefferson–The Pen. The visionary who put liberty into words that changed the world.
- George Washington–The Sword. The leader who carried the cause from hope to victory.
Their stories are woven together andtold through the eyes of Mercy Otis Warren—Revolutionary writer, historian, and eyewitness—who invites us to see the Revolution not as myth, but as courage, conflict, and choice. You’ll also meet The Committee of Five—Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston—along with influential women who shaped the nation, including Abigail Adams and Martha Washington. Featuring talented singers, dancers, and a dedicated regional cast and crew, this production blends original music, dynamic movement, and modern storytelling to honor the past—while speaking directly to today. This is more than a show. It’s a regional celebration. A community event. A moment for Upper East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia to come together and mark America’s250th year of independence—with pride, reflection, and inspiration. LampLight Theatre–Downtown Kingsport, Tennessee Natural Tunnel State Park–Duffield, Virginia History lived here once. Now—it lives here again. Join us this July. Feel the music. Hear the words.
